Memorial Trophy after capturing line and Cruising Class honours in the Round the Island Seagull Race on Saturday.

The pair powered their craft Sea Fever around the 42-mile course in a time of six hours, 16 minutes and 35 seconds. Following them across the line were `A' Class winners Allan Powell and Glenn Clinton aboard Black Cheeks , while another Cruising Class entrant, Muzzi , piloted by Warren Brown Jr. and Doerte Westphalen, was third. Meanwhile, Hans Olander and crew Martha Mora once again turned the trick in driving Seal to first place among the Traditional Dinghies.

All entrants were clocked over a measured distance before the race and assigned a handicap to ensure everyone a fair chance. All set out circling the island in a counter-clockwise direction starting and finishing at Long Island.

Race chairman Richard Amos recorded the fastest overall time as his newly-christened, 24-foot Nastiupset sped around in 3:21:35 for an average speed of 12.53 mph. Two other purpose-built craft --"Sreaming Flea'' (John Edmunds/Leroy Maitland) and "No Guano'' (Brian and Vicki Lightbourne) had finishing times of 3:59:08 and 4:30:00 respectively.

A special award for persistence went to Douglas Anfossi and Kevin Winter, who completely dismantled their engine three times along the way to correct a fouled cooling system. Their marathon rounding took over nine hours, but in the true spirit of the race they gallantly crossed the line under their own power.
