Former Bermuda international Stevie Astwood has returned to the Premier Division after joining Southampton Rangers for the new season.Astwood, who played in the Corona League last term for Lock N Key, has signed from PHC, while fellow veteran striker Aljame Zuill has moved to newly promoted Wolves.Dane Simmons will join Wolves after returning to his boyhood club along with Rangers defender Michael Williams and striker McLee Smith.Rangers have lost ten players from last season’s squad including Ijahmon Mallory and Adrian Burrows to Somerset Trojans, Andre Russell to Devonshire Cougars, and Khimo Harrison, Kanhai Fray and Davin Riley-Clarke to Somerset Eagles.Trojans also picked up Henry Santucci from Ireland Rangers, Tyrell Burgess from North Village, and defenders Dion Woolridge, Adolphus Lambert, and Jonte Pearson from Eagles.“If you look at last year, defensively, we weren’t one of the better teams in the league,” said last season’s coach Mike Corday, whose role at the club will be limited due to growing personal commitments.“We only had a certain amount of defenders to choose from and sometimes we were making midfielders into defenders, which doesn’t always go over too well.“But this year with the addition of the defensive players we should be a much stronger team and have more depth as well.”Dandy Town lost several players including promising brothers Tymon and Tristan Daniels to First Division X’Roads, although Hornets have drafted in Aquino Grant from PHC, and Boulevard trio Temiko Wilson, Ajani Gibbons and Reiko Trott.Cougars have also improved their squad, picking up Drewonde Bascome, Lovintz Tota, Conneko Trott, Andrew Samuels and Akeem Wolffe.St George’s have lost their potent attacking force up front with Angelo Cannonier returning to St David’s along with Shea Pitcher and Shakil Robinson, while Clay Darrell will trade shades of blue when he dons the colours of Rangers. Robert Wilson, Antwan Russell and Takeyhi Walker will join Robin Hood along with Roger Lee from Eagles, while North Village also lost Demitri Frias to BAA Wanderers.Fellow new boys Flanagan’s Onions have made no changes to the side which gained promotion to the First Division last season, however BAA have snapped up 12 players including Prospect duo Shaki Swan and Makai Young.
