stealing a cheque valued at $1,650 because he was under "severe financial pressure''.

Dwayne Smith, of Middle Road, also pleaded guilty to making a false document and adding false writing, uttering, and inducing a Bank of Bermuda employee to deliver the funds.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne told Magistrates' Court yesterday that a mail person delivered a social security cheque belonging to Arnold Tucker to the apartment complex where Smith lived along with other tenants.

"Smith noticed the envelope and took the cheque which was in the sum of $1,650 to the Bank of Bermuda,'' Sgt. Osborne said.

"Smith signed the back of the cheque using the name Henry Jones and the teller gave over the sum.'' Sgt. Osborne also said that Smith told Police that he took the money so he could pay off a number of debts.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis ordered a social inquiry report and remanded Smith in custody until June 15.
