About The World
The World is a luxurious floating residential community complete with five-star restaurants, a spa, and tennis courts.
It is a unique ship owned by its residents, representing 40 different countries who circumnavigate the globe from port to port.
Some of the residents live full-time on board in the ship's 165 residential units, while others visit from time to time.
The ship has 106 apartments, 19 studio apartments and 40 studios and carries between 100 and 300 residents and their guests. The ship sails to ports such as Alanya, Turkey, Gibraltar, Barcelona, the Caribbean, Monte Carlo and the Southern US.
Facilities on board include a small grocery store and deli, a boutique, athletic facility including a golf simulator and putting green, casino, full-sized tennis court, jogging track and full equipped gym.
There are five restaurants including, East, The Marina, Tides, Portraits and Poolside Grill, and two spas.
On board entertainment includes a movie theatre, a library, music performances, classes in dance, navigation, language, cooking, arts and crafts, music computers and photography and high speed Internet access in each residence.
However, luxury like this doesn't come cheap as the residences were created by world-famous designers such as Nina Campbell of London and JP Molyneux Studio, New York with Juan Pablo Molyneux.
A studio apartment alone will set back a buyer almost $900,000 with an annual maintenance fee of $90,892 inclusive of food and beverages.
Apartments include a veranda, usually more than one bathroom, a jet pool, a dining room, living and kitchen, plasma televisions, walk-in closets, office areas, CD/DVD systems and more.
If home-ownership aboard a ship isn't your thing, apartments are also available for rent starting at $1,300 to $4,750 a night including food and most beverages.
The World was built by Fosen Mek. Verksteder in Rissa, Norway and was completed March 13, 2002 weighing 43,524 tons and 644 feet, two inches long.
She is registered in the Bahamas and is operated by ResidenSea in Miramar, Florida.
