Man charged in causing road death of tourist

The man accused of causing the death of American tourist Martha Hoopes, appeared in Magistrates' Court on charges yesterday.

Harold Simons of Bob's Valley Drive, Sandys, was not required to enter a plea as his case must be heard in Supreme Court.

The 39-year-old died on March 24 after her cycle collided with a van near Waterlot Inn in Southampton. Her nine-year-old daughter, who was the pillion passenger, suffered serious injuries.

Mrs. Hoopes' represented the third road fatality of this year.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Simons on $60,000 bail. He is to appear in court for mention November 6.
