Ascendant shares leap 6.5%

Bank boost: Butterfield shares rose for a third successive trading day on the BSX

Shares of Ascendant Group Ltd jumped 6.5 per cent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading, building on their 10 per cent gain over the past week.

Ascendant, the owner of Belco, gained $1.25 to close on $20.50 as 4,755 shares traded.

Last month the company said it was “evaluating strategic options”, including putting itself up for sale.

Insurer BF&M also gained, adding ten cents, or 0.6 per cent, to close on $16.16 as 490 shares changed hands.

Butterfield Bank remained unchanged on $34.50 as 230 of its shares traded. Butterfield’s US-listed shares gained 22 cents, or 0.64 per cent, to close on $34.86 in New York trading.
