Three delivery trucks decorated by Bermudian artists have hit the roads as part of a Bermuda National Gallery project.

Sophie Cressall, curator at the BNG, said the displays, which feature a range of designs from pastels to contemporary photography, aimed to “bring art to the streets of Bermuda”.

Peter Lapsley, the executive director, said the BNG wanted to showcase local artists and follow an international trend to “demystify the museum space”.

Works were selected from a selection artworks showcased in exhibitions over the past 12 years. The three trucks are an installation of the Bermuda Biennial 2018 Exhibition, What We Share, sponsored by Bacardi International.

Mr Lapsley said: “The works that we selected run the gamut from works of pastel by Sharon Wilson, all the way through to more contemporary photography pieces by James Cooper.

“What we really wanted to do was represent the arc of practices that are happening on the island.”

The vehicles were provided by the BGA Group of Companies and will continue making deliveries for the Pembroke wholesale distributor across the island until the end of the month.

Funding came from the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, although BGA helped pay for one truck to be transformed and Bermuda Blueprinting completed the installation on the trucks’ exteriors.

Ms Cressall said: “It’s about the coming together of a community to make a project happen. We are delighted to play a key role in that.”
