Top student-athletes to be rewarded for sportsmanship

Former Denton Hurdle Memorial Award winner LeiLanni Nesbeth of Saltus poses with her award in 2015

More than 50 students have been nominated for Denton Hurdle Memorial Awards at Warwick Academy tomorrow at 7pm.

The award is only open to students in their final year of primary, middle or senior school.

Now in its 32rd year, the awards — honouring the late Denton Hurdle — are used to recognise and reward the finest student-athletes. Hurdle was an avid sportsman and excelled rugby and went on to captain Teachers Rugby Football Club and played for Bermuda.

Each school is asked to nominate one boy and one girl for the award. All nominees will receive a certificate of recognition and are expected to attend the event.

To be nominated students must have displayed leadership, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and dedication.
