The historic Dockyard has got into the spirit of Christmas as it lit up its tree for the festive season.

Families flocked to the old Royal Navy base on Sunday night as the Christmas tree was unveiled.

Youngsters watched in wonder at the official lighting ceremony on Dockyard’s north lawn, which included entertainement, free hot chocolate and free lighting up gifts for children.

The West End Development Corporation, which runs Dockyard, said the tree-lighting was the first of several events to be held in the run-up to Christmas.

Stephanie Rodill, marketing and events manager at Wedco, said: “We are really getting into the Christmas spirit and I, for one, cannot wait.”
