to check out their prospects for the future at the fifth annual College and University Fair.

The fair, held at the Princess Hotel in Hamilton, offered 41 colleges and universities for students to investigate.

And for the first time Bermuda College had a booth set up at the fair. Bermuda College's Leonard Santucci said that during the fair's first hour, he had already seen its importance.

"I've already seen that it is important for us to be here, by the response we have received at our booth,'' he said. "The students have been very responsive to us and they see how the Bermuda College can be integrated into their post secondary education.'' In addition to learning more about further education, students could check out two computers with a career development programme called Choices.

Career education officer Janet Musson said the programme let students research options.

Students type in a profession, she said, and the computer will link the occupation to college programmes and majors.

"Then it links the majors with the schools that offer that programme or major,'' Ms Musson explained.

She said the 1997 version of "Choices'' listed both Canadian and American schools.

And Ms Musson added the computer programme also allowed students to do self-planning.

Students, she said, could do self-assessments on the computer so they could begin planning careers early.

Ms Musson said the computer programme would be in the senior school systems in the near future so that every student could have access to them via their school libraries.

Students at the fair overwhelmingly endorsed the usefulness of the exercise.

"It's an excellent programme,'' said Lionel Bean of Berkeley Institute, about the college fair. " We get to see a number of colleges. it has narrowed my choices down.''
