Dear Sir,

Thanks to Jonathan Bell for bringing today’s Int’l Newspaper Carriers Day to our attention (albeit an American designation). No question that most of us get the news on-line or via TV, but nothing beats the daily ritual of physical paper and coffee in hand at the breakfast table.

So as I write, I’m raising my cup of coffee to the person who delivers my morning Royal Gazette – faithfully every day, rain, shine and even storm. I can’t ever recall not seeing the tossed paper at the bottom of our garden, well-protected in plastic wrap. Well yes, there has been the rare occasion of vehicle breakdowns.

Some of us older generation and those who are care-givers for an even older less-mobile generation really appreciate our own paper carriers.
