Lloyd's official to speak

Reinsurance Congress organised by Coopers & Lybrand in association with Hawksmere at the Hamilton Princess Hotel.

The event opens tomorrow with an address from Premier Sir John Swan and moves quickly into the keynote address from deputy chairman of Lloyd's of London, Mr. Robert Hiscox.

Chairman and CEO of Alexander Underwriting Services, Mr. Dan Osterhout, will speak on the future of Superfund, the legislative proposal authorising the private and public funding of the clean-up of toxic dump sites in the US. The bill died when the US Congress adjourned its session last week.

Other speakers include Mr. Jonathan Crawley of Sphere Drake Underwriting Management (Bermuda) Ltd., Mr. Roger Gillett of Johnson and Higgins (Bermuda) Ltd. speaking on the latest developments in the ART market, and Mid Ocean Re's Mr. Michael Butt, who speaks on the latest developments in the property catastrophe market.

That threesome will also join Registrar of Companies, Mr. Malcolm Butterfield, and lawyer Mr. Alexander Cooper of Conyers, Dill and Pearman in a panel discussion.

Important themes of the reinsurance congress include the future of the LLoyd's market, Bermuda market trends especially in CAT and ART, European market and regulatory developments, financial reporting standards and US regulation, and will also feature pollution and environmental issues.

The key industry topics will be scrutinised by industry representatives, brokers and underwriters, regulators, lawyers and accountants.

The conference winds up on Saturday.
