Female driver fined $500 for traffic offences
A 29-year-old driver apologised for hitting a pedestrian so hard that the mirror of her car was damaged.
Janae Armstrong, of Dudley Hill, Paget, pleaded guilty to driving without due care, failing to report an accident, failing to stop and failing to give her address when she appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.
On November 4, around 8 a.m., Armstrong was driving west on Ord Road, in Paget, when she hit Emilee Roberts, who was walking in the opposite direction.
Armstrong failed to stop, however, and when Police arrived at her house she admitted she had been involved in the accident.
Ms. Roberts suffered minor bruising to her upper arm and there was damage to the car's mirror.
In court yesterday Armstrong said: "I apologise for not being responsible for my actions and I apologised to the arresting officers and asked them to send my condolences to the person I struck."
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner then fined her $250 for driving without due care and $250 for failing to stop. For failing to report an accident and failing to give her address as well as the two fineable offences, Mr. Warner gave her five demerit points.
