Zebras get their title challenge back on track

Action from yesterday's match between North Village and Dandy Town at St John's Field. Town won 2-1 thanks to goals from Raymond Beach and Kevin Hurdle.

Devonshire Colts 0PHC 3A first half strike from Aquino Grant and two second half tallies from Lloyd Holder and Antwan Russell saw PHC close to within two points of league leaders North Village at the top of the table as they beat bottom side Devonshire Colts at Police Field. In a game that had a lot riding on it for both sides, it was PHC who overcame a hard working Colts side yesterday, who have now lost two games on the trot at home.“This is a big win today after coming off a loss to St. George's last weekend that knocked us off our stride a bit but this has us back in the hunt for the title,” said Russell.“We had an all around good team game today, although we are missing a few key players, and I even dropped back into the midfield to help out a bit so it is satisfying.Minus the likes of Cecoy Robinson, Blenn Bean, Cofield Robinson, Kevin Lambe, and coach Kyle Lightbourne, just to name a few, the visitors got stuck in from the opening whistle and were rewarded for their endeavour when Grant struck in the 20th minute after some good work down the flank by youngster Khamisi Lightbourne. With neither side creating any real opportunities it wasn't until the second half that the match opened up with the hosts applying pressure to PHC after the break and were unlucky to not get on level terms with Kyle Jones and the height of Bayon Robinson causing problems from set pieces. It was PHC, however, who would turn the screws as the time wore on and Russell snatched a well-deserved goal for his efforts on the day when he stroked home from close range in the 82nd.Substitute Holder then made the match a formality as he got his first of 2011 in the 87th.“Being that Town beat Village this result makes it a league worth watching again so we will see how this all plays out in the end, but we are happy with the result.”Devonshire Colts: G Rose, B Robinson, C Durham, D Williams, N Bascome (Z Darrell,70), Q Jones, J Khan, L Symonds, E Wilkin, K Jones (C Trott,78), M Burch.
