Man charged with 1988 rape

A 53-year-old man was charged yesterday with the rape of a woman 30 years ago.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is alleged to have committed the offence between September 1, 1988, and October 1, 1988.

The defendant was not required to enter a plea in Magistrates’ Court because the case must be heard in the Supreme Court.

The man, from Pembroke, was released on $10,000 bail on the conditions he has no contact with the alleged victim and reports to police twice a week.

The case was adjourned until September 4 in the Supreme Court.
