Explosive Sabir rescues Warwick

Dominic Sabir led an impressive fightback with the bat to guide Warwick Workmen’s Club to a seven-wicket win over Western Stars in the First Division Twenty20 at Lord’s today.The top-order batsman came to the crease with his team in a spot of bother at 35 for two in the seventh over replying to Stars 137 for four and produced an explosive knock and dominated a 62-run third-wicket partnership with Akeem Ible.Sabir delighted the crowd with some powerful stroke play during a whirlwind innings of 58 from 40 balls that included three fours and five sixes.Ible and Kyle Swan added 35 for the fourth wicket after Sabir departed in the thirteenth over to inch Warwick closer to their target which they reached with 15 balls to spare.Swan struck an unbeaten 24, Ible 19 and opener Jamar Stovell 21 at the top of the order.Seth Campbell was the pick of the Stars bowling with two for 25.Earlier, Torleair Caines, Dominic Sabir, captain Stephan Dill and Ible took one wicket each to restrict Stars to a modest total.Seion Darrell topped the Stars batting with an unbeaten 38, opener Manders added 37 and Swayne Campbell 22.“We had a rough day in the field, a couple of dropped catches and didn’t look too sharp at all but our batting showed real character,” Dill, the Warwick captain, said. “Dominic has been doing real well, just ended back on the national team so his confidence is way high.
