Horseshoe Bay is a major hit on social-media site Instagram after more than 90,000 pictures of the beach were shared.

TravelSupermarket said the South Shore, Southampton, beach was the third most shared beach in the world, behind Whitehaven Beach in Queensland, Australia, and Hawaii’s Lanakai Beach.

A total of 90,404 shared images of the beach with the hashtag #Horseshoebay, beat out Cayo Coco Beach in Cuba and Bavaro Beach in the Dominican Republic to claim a podium place.

Jamari Douglas, digital marketing manager for the Bermuda Tourism Authority, said the island’s popularity on social media will only help to promote Bermuda to other potential visitors.

Mr Douglas said: “The pink and blue signatures of our beaches out here in Bermuda show beautifully on Instagram, so it makes perfect sense that Horseshoe Bay would be best in class for the region among Instagram users.

“It’s especially gratifying to get this news on the same week @bermuda passed 50,000 followers on Instagram.

“Increasingly our visitors are sharing their great Bermuda images on social media and inspiring others to visit us for the first time.”
