Rangers can beat the drop Raynor
Southampton Rangers defender Andrew Raynor insists the team’s job is far from done after they jumped out of the relegation zone with a vital 4-0 victory over St. David’s at Southampton Oval at the weekend. The win, combined with a Devonshire Colts loss and a Somerset Eagles bye, has left the side currently two points above the drop zone, with matches against both of their relegation rivals on the –horizon.Rangers are now three points behind St. David’s and have a more favourable run-in than teams around them. For Raynor, however, the win is just a small step in the right direction as the club look to pull away from the relegation zone.“Obviously it’s good to win, and we must continue to work hard to get ourselves away from relegation,” said Raynor. “The game wasn’t easy knowing both teams are looking to stay up, but it was always important for us because it was a home game and we know we must take advantage of home games.“The result lifted us out of the bottom two, but the job isn’t done and we must continue to put in the effort in order to get the required results.”Rangers played well despite their loss to Devonshire Cougars at the start of last week and will surely be the odds on favourites to beat the drop considering the talent in the camp. And Raynor has called on his teammates to remain focused on the task at hand and to claim points that they are expected to get.“We’re looking to get closer to the middle of the table but in order to do that we must get the results now to make it easier on ourselves later on.“We don’t want to have to go to the end of the season still fighting for our status in the top-flight and with a few more wins we can hopefully give ourselves some breathing space.“With games still to come against the teams close to us, it’s vital to get something out of these games to keep ourselves safe, but in the end it will come down to us putting in the hard work and being dedicated to the cause.“No game has been easy and no game will be easy, you can look at the table and see this but we will continue to work hard.”Next up for Rangers is a showdown at home against league leaders North Village on Sunday.
