Alfonso toasts new job
After two decades as a bartender, Alfonso Harris, 42, is toasting his new job as an owner of a small business.
Last autumn, he purchased Churchill's Ltd., a wine and cigar store in St. George's.
"It is interesting, eye-opening [to own my own business," he said. "I'm pretty happy cause it is mine and I can't blame anybody. I'm in control."
Mr. Harris bought the shop from Bill Davis who wanted to retire.
Since taking over he has added more inventory such as a wider selection of wines and some special gifts such as a Clef du Vin, which is a tool that ages wine.
He is also expanding the cigar selection of his business to take advantage of the large walk-in humidor that came with the store.
"Everybody sells cigars, but they don't have a walk in humidor like ours," he said. "It is like a big walk in closet and it has space for 650 boxes of cigars. We don't have that many yet, but we are trying to build up the stock since we can keep cigars a long-time because of the special room."
