Alfieri takes on New York job

ACE USA, the US-based retail operating division of the ACE Group of companies, announced the appointment of as regional executive ? New York.

Based in New York City, Mr. Alfieri will be responsible for setting and driving the overall strategic direction for the ACE USA New York Region, which comprises the Metro New York City area and parts of northern New Jersey. He will have responsibility for the regional production plan, distribution, product sales and marketing, producer management, staff management and overall operations.

"ACE USA's regional management strategy is a key component of our commitment to delivering exceptional service and growing our business throughout the United States," said John Lupica, president, ACE USA Regional Operations. "Under John's leadership and guidance, we look forward to growing our presence in the New York area and contributing to ACE USA's profitable growth."

Mr. Alfieri joins ACE USA with more than 23 years experience in the insurance industry. Most recently, he was executive vice president and managing director with Willis North America, where he oversaw the expansion of the large account practice area for Willis Risk Solutions. Previously to Willis, Mr. Alfieri was an executive vice president with Munich-American RiskPartners. Earlier in his career, Mr. Alfieri held risk management and underwriting positions with Texaco; Heddington Insurance Ltd., Texaco's captive company in Bermuda; and AIG.

A frequent industry speaker, Mr. Alfieri has published articles in publications including Captive Review magazine and Leader's Magazine. He is a graduate of the State University of New York, Plattsburgh, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics. He also has completed graduate work in economics and finance at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut.

Gary Schmalzriedt, chairman and CEO of ACE Overseas General (AOG), announced the appointment of to the post of senior vice president and general counsel for AOG's operations in Asia and Latin America.

AOG is a financial reporting segment of ACE Ltd. and comprises the company's international property casualty and accident and health businesses and its Lloyd's operations.

Reporting to Mr. Schmalzriedt, Ms Santirocco will be based in New York and is responsible for providing legal counsel to AOG's Latin America, Asia Pacific, Greater China, and Far East operating units.

Before joining ACE, Ms. Santirocco worked for ING Americas, where she served most recently as counsel to the company's Latin America region.

She had previously worked for Aetna International in a division responsible for Latin America and Asia and assumed her role at ING America when the company acquired Aetna. Ms Santirocco had been with Aetna since 1987. Before this time, Ms Santirocco had worked in a private practice in Boston for five years, after graduating from Yale University and Harvard Law School.

"With Laura's considerable experience in the international arena, she will be a strong asset to ACE Overseas General, providing strategic legal counsel to the group," said Mr. Schmalzriedt. "Her proven expertise in providing legal counsel to the Asian and Latin American regions will be crucial as we grow our operations. I am very pleased to welcome Laura to ACE."

Montpelier Re Holdings Ltd. announced changes to its board of directors with respect to directors and nominees associated with White Mountains Insurance Group, Ltd.

On February 27, 2004 Montpelier announced that had succeeded Jack Byrne, retired chairman and CEO of White Mountains, as chairman of Montpelier and that Mr. Byrne would remain on the board as a director until the annual general meeting in May. It was also announced the board had nominated , president and CEO of White Mountains' subsidiary, One Beacon Insurance Group, for election to the Board at the annual general meeting. Yesterday, Montpelier announced that Mr. Byrne will retire from the Montpelier Board effective March 31 2004 and that Mr. Cavoores will not be standing as a nominee for election to the board.
