Police issued a warning for tourists to use their “common sense” and to take the same safety precautions as they would at home.

The recommendation came after a couple found their belongings were missing after going for a swim early on Saturday morning.

It is the third or fourth time in a matter of weeks that tourists taking late night swims have had their clothing and personal items stolen. Bermuda Police spokesman Robin Simmons said in the most recent incident the couple left The Deep night club at Elbow Beach Hotel when they decided to take a swim at the beach.

When the pair returned to the shore they found that all their belongings had been stolen.

Mr. Simmons said vacationers needed to be aware that they must still protect their belongings. “These precautions should also be taken when in clubs, riding mopeds and when in other crowded areas. Sometimes tourists forget to protect their belongings when they are on holiday. We urge people to use their common sense.”

After the couple had realised that their belongings had been stolen they approached a man with a flashlight who was walking along the beach. The man helped them search, but none of the items were retrieved and the couple called the Police around 4 a.m.

Later in the morning the victim returned to the beach found his underwear near the flashlight that he had borrowed.

Just one new case appeared in yesterday's arraignment session in Supreme Court.

Brian Carlton Rogers, 43, of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to stealing a car worth $8,000 on March 5, building breaking and causing $60 damaging to two washing machines on March 17.

He was remanded in custody to reappear for mention on October 1. Also reappearing then for mention is George (Messy) MacDonald Liburd, 30, of Pembroke, who is accused of murdering mother-of-three Chena Danette Trott in August last year in Hamilton Parish.

And Marco Lovell, 23, of no fixed abode, yesterday changed his plea to guilty to robbery using violence in St. George's on December 15 last year. A social inquiry report and victim impact statement was ordered by Chief Justice Austin Ward for Lovell for a mention hearing in October.

An 18-year-old jet ski operator was arrested after racing through swimmers at Shelly Bay beach on the weekend.

A Police spokesman said the incident occurred at around 3.15 p.m. on Sunday. Marine Police officers approached the man to tell him that he was going to be arrested for speeding so close to shore.

The Hamilton Parish man gave them a chase and then headed towards shore. He then jumped off the jet ski and ran towards Shelly Bay field where he was captured and arrested.

A 12-year-old girl from the Dominican Republic was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after her plane was diverted to the Island over the weekend.

The American Airlines Boeing 757 on which she was travelling, en route from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to New York, landed when it became clear to flight staff that she was seriously ill and in need of medical attention.

The girl, who was accompanied by three members of her family, was rushed to hospital in an ambulance and the plane was able to continue on its journey. No details were forthcoming from the hospital last night as to what the girl's condition was or what she was suffering from.

Bermudian related Camp movie actress Sasha Allen was scheduled to appear on the Late Night with David Letterman show last night shortly after a triumphant Diva competition.

Sasha Allen along with fellow cast members from the movie Camp were to play on the popular show along with guest Kate Hudson in her latest film Le Divorce. Ms Allen plays Dee in this summer's Broadway hit Camp, has a claim to fame with the recent VH1's “Born to Diva” show competition where she beat thousands to win the New York heat.

Twenty-year-old Sasha said in a VH1 interview that her Bermudian grandmother, classically trained jazz pianist and teacher Trea Helen Henderson, has been one of her greatest influences.

Now Sasha has taken the next step in her entertainment career with her role in the movie Camp, a musical comedy about a summer camp for aspiring singers, actors and dancers, produced by Danny Devito. At the end of this month Sasha will be performing in Europe where Camp is said to be a hit with audiences.

American super network NBC has given Bermuda pride of place among exotic locales in which it chooses to butter up corporate sponsors.

It emerged last week the network will send around half of its big name Olympic Games advertising clients to the Island rather than offer them the usual perk of a trip to the place where the Games are being held - to be held next year in Athens, Greece.

While networks usually send their main sponsors on luxury trips to the hubs of Olympian excitement, this time NBC found arranging such trips “a bit hectic”, according to American national newspaper USA Today.

“It's an alternative”, says NBC's Kevin Sullivan, for those “who want a different experience” or “less traffic”, the paper said. It was unclear yesterday what such trips would entail, how long they would be as well as which companies would be coming to the Island.

After a the main dispute concerning the post of a senior traffic warden, Chief Inspector Anthony Mouchette, said traffic warden issues are about 75 percent resolved.

“The wardens have been at work while we resolve this issue and positive steps are being taken to deal with the problems,” said Chief Inspector Mouchette, who is dealing with the concerns of the traffic wardens.

“The traffic wardens have all stood behind acting senior traffic warden Ramirez and so their main issue is filling this post that has been left open for a while,” he said.

Ch. Insp. Mouchette said that threats towards the wardens is an everyday thing and affects Police officers as well.

“I think the issue of threats has been blown out of proportion,” he said. “They're generally minor threats that are not personal but are made when people are issued tickets. The women do take it more seriously though because it may become a bigger issue for them,” he added.

But talks are underway and Ch. Insp. Mouchette said that the wardens were working while the issues were being dealt with and they were also working with the Bermuda Public Services Union.

A store that had been robbed on a previous occasion was hit by thieves yet again at the weekend.

A Police spokesman said it was the second time the store was robbed in three days. The thief stole a large amount of liquor from the store located on Middle Road, in Paget, at just after midnight on Sunday night.

The suspect was wearing a light coloured jacket, gloves, a black helmet and a scarf over his face. Investigations into the incident are underway.
