Roberts to speak at BFA event

Jason Roberts, formerly of West Brom, will be speaking at the BFA symposium

Former Premier League footballer Jason Roberts will be the guest speaker at the Bermuda Football Association’s End of Season Symposium on April 21 at the Bermuda College auditorium.

The BFA will close out the 2017-18 season with two functions that weekend, starting with the “Night of Legends” annual awards on the Friday night at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. The awards will feature the legends who will be honoured with a scholarship in their name that will be presented in July.

The night will begin with a cocktail reception, followed by the awards ceremony and a reception for the night’s winners at the conclusion. Bermuda idol 2014 winner, Olivia Hamilton, will perform and tickets will be on sale at the BFA office at $20 per person.

Roberts, who played for several clubs including Bristol Rovers, West Bromwich Albion, Wigan, Blackburn Rovers and Reading, is the nephew of former West Brom striker Cyrille Regis who recently died at the age of 59. His career began at Hayes Town and concluded at Reading in 2014, a career spanning 20 years.

Roberts, the Director of Development for Concacaf, was also a football pundit for BBC. He was present at the recent draw for the inaugural Concacaf Nations League draw which involved Bermuda.

During the awards night on the Friday, the Most Valuable Player, Young Player of the Year and Coach of the Year are three of the awards that will be presented by the 2018 legends. Also presented will be the BFA Order of Merit award, an award reserved for those individuals who have served Bermuda football with distinction.

The following night will see the symposium at Bermuda College with Roberts in attendance, giving a presentation on Concacaf development. Also, the Bermuda Football Coaches Association will present on the “Power of the Coach”.

There will also be presentations by touring team Oakville Blue Devils and Maurice Lowe, the BFA Technical Development Director. The symposium will also have a presentation on the just concluded season.
