Speedy Dill continues to impress over 800m
Bermuda 800 metre runner Shaquille Dill finished eighth at the New Balance Nationals where he competed against some of the best high school athletes in the US.Accompanied by his coach Gerry Swan, Dill posted a time of one minute, 51.07 seconds his third fastest time at last week’s annual meet at the North Carolina A & T University.Dill, 17, is a recipient of a 2011 Junior Athlete Sponsorship Award provided by the Department of Youth and Sport.Since receiving the award, Dill has run his three fastest 800m times 1:50.90, a new personal best time that earned him the silver medal at this year’s Carifta Games; 1:50.18, a further improvement to his personal best time at a domestic track meet last month and his recent time at the New Balance Nationals.Earlier this year, Dill ran the fastest 800m time by a local junior athlete in the history of the Bermuda Track and Field Association to qualify for the 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships.He will also compete at the Pan American Junior Championships in Florida, from July 22-24.
