Man denies string of robbery charges

A man denied a string of charges related to allegations of robbery, knife possession and depriving a man of his liberty when he appeared before Chief Justice Richard Ground.

Richard James Green, 53, is accused of a serious assault on Arthur Able Cabral on July 24 last year. The following day, he is alleged to have stolen $1,000 from the same victim.

On September 18 last year he is alleged to have possessed a knife in an increased penalty zone in Beacon Street, Pembroke, in the vicinity of the Flying Start Nursery.

The same day, he is accused of depriving Mr. Cabral of his liberty and robbing him of $1,000.

On October 13 last year, Green is further alleged to have possessed a knife in the area near the Flying Start Nursery, to have deprived Mr. Cabral of his liberty and to have robbed him of $1,000. He is also accused of stealing $3,000 from Mr. Cabral on October 23 last year.

On November 16 last year, Green is alleged to have possessed a knife in the vicinity of Flying Start Nursery and robbed Mr. Cabral of $500. Two days later he is alleged to have again possessed a knife — this time in the increased penalty zone surrounding Point Pleasant Park in Point Pleasant Road — and robbed Mr. Cabral of $50.

No details of the circumstances of the allegations against Green were given during his brief court appearance yesterday, which came during the monthly arraignments session at Supreme Court. After the defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges, Mr. Justice Ground bailed him and ordered him to appear before the court again at the next arraignments session on November 1.

The Chief Justice also earmarked a date for the trial of Andrina Tamara Smith, 26, who is accused of murdering her boyfriend Edward Dill at the home they shared in Cedar Park, Devonshire, on October 16 last year. She has denied the charge and Mr. Justice Ground set January 7 as the date for her trial.
