Crevoisier’s coaching handbook helps nurture talent
Jacques Crevoisier’s Coaching Handbook for Bermuda will provide a road map for local coaches developing the Island’s young players. That’s the assertion of Andrew Bascome, head coach at the ABC Football School, who have hired the esteemed French coach to help raise the standard of play in Bermuda. The handbook has been available for the past month for anyone looking for more information on improving young players through a progressive-based training system.Over the course of the next 18 months, three additional playbooks are to be published for the grassroots age group, under-12 to under-14 and finally under-16 and over. The handbook analyses the Bermuda style of players, which include having good technique and being attack-minded, but also some negatives such as players lacking self-confidence and being too impulsive. It also highlights the importance of youth players having fun during training sessions.Bascome, head coach at the ABC, believes the handbook can help coaches of all levels and parents learn more about player development.“It’s a fantastic book; it helps you deal with the psychological aspects of training. I find it very informative, there’s also a section that shows you how to assess yourself and your training sessions,” he said.ABC director Henrik Schroder is hoping to see some of the domestic clubs purchase the handbook.“We have seen individual coaches coming forward, those with a keen desire to learn and further their education,” he said. “We would love to see the clubs show an interest and make the coaching books available to them as a package.”Crevoisier, who signed a three-year agreement to work as a technical consultant for ABC earlier this year, will visit the Island for a week in September when he will conduct a coaching workshop.During recent years the ex-Liverpool assistant has visited the Island on several occasions to perform clinics. To order the handbook, priced $50, visit www.abcfootballschool.com or email abcfootballschool[AT]gmail.com.n Budding young Bermuda players can improve their skills both on and off the field at the HSBC Pro Soccer Clinic. The clinic, which caters to youth soccer players between the ages of 6 -16 years old, kicks off on Monday, July 4, at BAA Field.Participants will be coached by former indoor soccer league professional David Bascome and other top players and coaches from Bermuda and the United States.
