Crime Stoppers is asking the public's help in solving a murder that took place 29 years ago.

Berkeley Institute teacher Margery Wade was found murdered in her Laffan Street apartment on March 4, 1975, but her killer has never been caught.

The 34-year-old English-born teacher taught typing at Berkeley.

Detective Brian Callaghan, who worked on the case in 1975, is now retired and is the director of Crime Stoppers.

"Once you have been at the scene of a murder and seen the murder victim lying there, you tend not to forget it, even so long afterwards," Mr. Callaghan said.

Mr. Callaghan said that in the past couple of years, two calls were made about the murder. When the information was checked it proved to be wrong.

"Someone in Bermuda knows who killed Margery Wade and with the passing of the years we can only hope that their conscience bothers them and that one day they will pick up the phone and call," Mr. Callaghan said.

As for the murder of Ms Wade or any other unsolved crime, the public is reminded that they can call Crime Stoppers any time of day on 1-800-623-8477 and remain completely anonymous.

"Crime Stoppers wish to remind the public that the hotline is answered by volunteers in the US, not Bermuda so complete anonymity is guaranteed. At no time will a caller be asked to identify him or herself in any way."

Rewards are offered for information leading to an arrest.
