The Pompano Beach Club has been given final planning approval to build 16 new guest units.

Pompano general manager Larry Lamb said: ?We are one of the few hotels expanding as a hotel,? Mr. Lamb said. ?We are not trying to convert into condos ? which is a lucrative way to do it. But we are strictly a hotel and want to continue to be that.?

He said this winter will be the first time in 23 years that Pompano will be closed for December, January and February as the expansion gets underway. Two new guest buildings, coupled with a new spa and ocean-side restaurant, make the project the largest expansion in the hotel?s 49 year history.

The go-ahead has been given for the construction of a six-storey apartment building on Elliott Street in Hamilton.

The Development Applications Board has given Denton Outerbridge final planning permission to erect the new development, which will contain 21 dwelling units at 24 Elliott Street. The building may also be used for commercial purposes at street level and includes parking.
