The Sky Top Cottages suffered a double blow on Wednesday when two visitor's apartments were broken into, netting a thief almost $1,800 in cash and travellers cheques.

Police say they received the first call from the Paget guest house at 7.15 am. and attended the scene. A male complainant told them that, after going to bed around midnight he woke to discover that someone had gained entry into his apartment and removed $1,200 from his wallet along with $440 in travellers checks.

In addition to the money, the thief also got away with a pair of cream-coloured socks.

Approximately two hours later, officers attended the guest house again, and this time a female complainant told them when someone gained entry into their apartment and stole $120 cash from her purse and a storm lamp.

And while she said she did not believe the establishment was being watched by a potential thief, an employee of Sky Top who refused to be identified, said: "This is our first break-in a while, but there have been a lot of robberies in the Paget area lately."
