Showing the true spirit of Christmas, more Islanders have came to the aid of two homeless families forced to live in cars.

The plight of two women and their children has been featured in this week.

One woman and her child have been forced to live in a car after losing their apartment. A second family were forced to live in their car for several months.

Coalition of the Protection of Children chairman Sheelagh Cooper confirmed both families have now been offered one-bedroom apartments.

The second woman who was housed yesterday said that she did not expect it and was looking forward to moving in.

?My son and I have been sleeping in the car for months now and I am so happy that people have reached out to us,? said the woman. ?I look forward to having a routine again and to coming home.

?I want to thank everyone for all their donations, the apartment and I hope that one day, I too, will be in a position where I can help someone as well.?

Financial and other donations continued to flow in to both into and the Coalition. Phones began ringing at 8 a.m. and continued into the evening.

People have donated beds, televisions, clothing, food, MarketPlace vouchers, cheques while others offered jobs, temporary accommodation and some have contacted friends to help the families.

A French woman, who is married to a Bermudian, said: ?I have sent around 150 e-mails around asking for some help in any way.

?Many people have written back saying that they want to help the two families.?

A couple offered $2,000 from their companies to help the families get back on their feet.

?After reading the article, we would like to give them a monetary gift,?? one caller said. ?They say Christmas is a time of giving and we hope our small gift will help them and be the start of many more good things to come.
