Refusing test costs rider

A man who refused to take a breathalyser test after being caught by Police racing his bike along North Shore Road paid heavily for his stubbornness yesterday in Magistrates? Court.

Pablo Hendrickson, 20, of Friswell?s Lane in Pembroke pleaded not guilty to a charge of drunk driving but guilty to declining to provide a breath sample ? despite numerous requests from Police.

On December 5 last year, Hendrickson was spotted at 12.45 a.m racing another motorbike on North Shore in Pembroke. When Police attempted to stop the bike and speak to Hendrickson, he tried to evade them by driving off down a side road at high speed.

With Police in pursuit, Hendrickson toppled off the bike and gave himself up.

Magistrate Edward King imposed a fine of $1,000 and banned Hendrickson from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
