Man attempted to steal camera from shop
A social inquiry report was ordered for a 39-year-old man who attempted to steal a digital camera from a Hamilton store.Devon Foggo, of Summit View Drive, Hamilton Parish, was charged with stealing the item from M&M International on Church Street. He denied the theft but admitted attempting to steal the $198 Vitara camera.Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said police were called to the store at 9.52am on November 5.An employee told the officers he saw Foggo stand in front of the camera showcase and try to place a camera in his jacket.Asked what he was doing, Foggo said he was just looking at the camera. He then left the electronics store.Police found him on Front Street, where he said: “What's this about? I gave the camera back.”He was then arrested.Yesterday, Foggo said: “I went into the store, I did pick up the camera, I did act suspiciously. I passed the gentleman the camera and he told me to leave. I did not run.”Ms Clarke agreed to a charge of attempted theft, to which Foggo said he would plead guilty to get the case over with.He said: “I'm trying to overcome all my obstacles and go forward.”Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said he did not think Foggo could do it alone. He adjourned the matter until February 24 and ordered a social inquiry report. He released Foggo on $2,000 bail.
