BSX flat despite active trading week

BSX: more than 82,300 shares were traded on the exchange last week

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index closed the week almost where it started, as more than 82,300 shares changed hands.

Three stocks gained and one fell as the index fell 0.58 of a point during the five days to close on 1,988.86.

Polaris Holding Co, the parent firm of Hamilton docks operator Stevedoring Services, was the week’s biggest gainer, climbing 25 cents, or 5.3 per cent, to a 52-week high of $5 on the trading of 201 shares.

Ascendant Group Ltd, owner of Belco, gained 25 cents, or 2.9 per cent, to close on $8.75, also a 52-week high, as 62,129 shares were traded.

Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd, the owner of this newspaper, as well as commercial printing, retail and real estate interests, gained 1 cent to close on $8.51 as 10,000 of its shares were traded.

The only stock to fall during the week was Somers Ltd, the financial services holding company that owns Bermuda Commercial Bank. Somers slipped 50 cents, or 3.8 per cent, to a new 52-week low of $12.50.

Shares of five other companies — Butterfield, Devonshire Industries, Argus Group, BF&M and One Communications — also traded without their prices changing.
