The girl told her mother that he had performed cunnilingus on her at their Pembroke home in September last year.

The accused's lawyer Larry Mussenden asked for a social inquiry report and for psychological testing to be done before sentence was passed.

But Magistrate Edward King ignored both requests yesterday and imposed an immediate custodial sentence.

He said: "This offence is a serious one.

"The punishment must fit the crime. This type of crime is held in great abhorrence by right thinking members of the community.'' Mr. King said neither a social inquiry report nor psychological report was necessary to assist him in sentencing though he did recommend the prison authorities give the offender treatment and rehabilitation.

The defendant stood impassively throughout Mr. King's speech.

Mr. King took into account the defendant's guilty plea and the fact that previous convictions were spent and sentenced him to two years -- three fewer than the maximum.

Glen Alden Flood, 44, of Keith Hall Road, Warwick denied driving a black suzuki cycle while impaired on March 9 of this year. He also pleaded not guilty to having a blood alcohol level in excess of 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood on that same day.
