Two years: 16 gun murders

There have been 16 gun murders in Bermuda since May 22, 2009. The Royal Gazette series launched today will focus on the following 12 cases, which police consider unsolved:

l Kenwandee (Wheels) RobinsonShot dead, aged 27, on St Monica’s Road, Pembroke, on May 22, 2009.

Murder investigation: No-one charged.

l Garry (Fingas) Cann

Shot dead, aged 22, on Sound View Road, Somerset, on December 15, 2009.

Murder investigation: No-one charged.

l Perry Mosley Puckerin

The first murder victim of 2010 was shot on January 3, aged 34, at the Hamilton Parish Workman’s Club.

Murder investigation: No-one charged.

l James LawesThe 26-year-old died after being shot multiple times outside Place’s Place on Dundonald Street, Pembroke, on March 19, 2010. He died on March 20.

Murder investigation: No-one charged.

l Kimwandae WalkerShot dead on the field at Victor Scott Primary School on April 2, 2010, in front of his two children, aged 35.

Murder investigation: No-one charged.

l George Lynch

Gunned down, aged 40, outside a house in Midland Heights Crescent, Hamilton Parish, on May 5, 2010.

Murder investigation: No-one charged.

l Freddy MayburyShot dead on June 14, 2010, aged 34, as he left Woody’s Sports Bar, Sandys.

Murder investigation: No-one charged.

l Colford Ferguson

Bermuda’s first murder victim of 2011 was gunned down, aged 29, while doing construction work on East Shore Road, Sandys, on February 4.

Murder investigation: No-one charged.

l Jahmiko LeShore

The 26-year-old was gunned down near Boundary Crescent, in Devonshire, on March 1.

Murder investigation: No-one charged.

l Randy RobinsonShot dead, aged 22, at 8.30pm on March 31 as he walked along Devonshire’s Border Lane.

Murder investigation: No-one charged.

The 26-year-old was fatally shot at the junction of Bandroom Lane and North Shore Road, in Devonshire, on April 17.

l David Clarke

Murder investigation: No-one charged.

l Jason Smith

Killed by gunfire, aged 22, on Overview Hill, near the junction with North Shore Road, in the early hours of May 1.

Murder investigation: No-one charged.

Prosecutors have secured convictions in three of the other murder cases:

l Kumi Harford

Shot dead, aged 30, on St Monica’s Road, on December 5, 2009.

Murder investigation: A jury found 25-year-old Antonio Myers guilty in March of the murder. He is due to be sentenced next month.

l Dekimo (Purple) Martin

The 24-year-old was gunned down at his Peacock Crescent, Sandys, home, on May 28, 2010.

Murder investigation: Kevin Warner was convicted of premeditated murder by a Supreme Court jury in May. He was sentenced to life imprisonment on July 26.

l Raymond Troy (Yankee) Rawlins

Fatally shot, aged 47, at the Spinning Wheel nightclub on Court Street on August 9, 2010.

Murder investigation: David Cox was found guilty of premeditated murder by a Supreme Court jury in July. He was sentenced to life imprisonment on July 19 with a minimum term of 38 years.

Police say the following murder case remains open and is under continual review:

l Shane Minors

Shot dead, aged 30, on Friswells Hill, Pembroke, on December 17, 2009.

Murder investigation: Two men stood trial for murder and were cleared by the unanimous verdicts of a Supreme Court jury in July.
