Bermuda skeet shooters finish fifth

Bermuda placed fifth in the Olympic Skeet team shooting as Faroe Islands duo Samal Debes and Marius Joensen grabbed gold at Clearwater, St David’s.Debes and Joensen shot scores of 75 and 92 respectively, good enough for 167 points and Games gold.Aland’s Lennart Akerblom and Bengt-Olof Lindgren fired 87 and 71 to garner 158 points and silver, while Edison McLean and Kevin Schirn of Cayman Island claimed bronze after shooting 146.McLean shot 88, while Schirn shot a 58.Fourth place went to Greenland’s pairing of Poul Erik Mathiasen (60) and Brian Wallbohm (67) who got 127, while Bermuda’s Terence Madeiros (31) and Andrew Pereira (50) totalled 81 points.At Warwick Camp, Gotland 1 (1143) hold a ten-point advantage over Bermuda 1 (1133) after the first round of the ISSF 50 metre prone small-bore rifle category,Menorca are a further five points back.The local team sit in fifth place on 1112 after the first day of the event.Gibraltar 1 top the charts with 554 points in the ISSF 10 metre air pistol division, with Gotland (546) and Hitra (539) hot on their heels.The ISSF 10 metre air rifle section, Gotland (1121) again hold a narrow lead over Jersey (1099) and St Helena (558).At Cooper’s Island, Gotland (525) lead the ISSF 50 metre free pistol division, ahead of Menorca (497) and Jersey (483), while Gotland (551) lead Jersey (512) and Gibraltar (502) in the ISSF 25 metre centre rifle competition.Bermuda are in fifth position on 189 points.The ISSF 25 metre standard pistol event is led again by Gotland (543) with Gibraltar (522) and Guernsey (461) rounding out the top three.
