Jumping for joy: Dawnita Smith, a member of the Junior Company, will be heading to Byrd College in the UK in September to study dance.

United Dance Productions is to hold its annual recital this weekend.Dancers as young as three will take to the stage at Whitney Middle School for the three-day event.“They will be performing in the disciplines of ballet, jazz, modern, tap and hip hop,” said UDP owner and founder Suzette Harvey.“Some of them will make you laugh until you cry, while others will leave you speechless showing their growth, technically and emotionally.”The recital takes place on Friday and Saturday. The Junior Company Showcase on Sunday showcases those dancers who auditioned for a spot in the troupe.“This year 30 made it in and 20 survived,” said Ms Harvey.“The Junior Company is a no-nonsense programme, the year is extremely demanding and just as rewarding. For instance, ballet is mandatory in order to be considered for the Company as the repertoire is broad and diverse.“The students must display a positive attitude and commitment to the training schedule. Younger dancers aged ten years and up train alongside the senior dancers, which gives them something to which to aspire to and it keeps the calibre high whilst maintaining a high standard of excellence.”Company member Dawnita Smith heads to Byrd College in the UK in September to study dance.“Dawnita is an exciting dancer to watch; full of passion and beauty, and this will be her last performance with the Junior Company,” said Ms Harvey.“She is a true artist who demonstrates her hard work on stage. Dawnita is a trailblazer who many of the younger dancers look up to and admire, because of her high energy and commitment to excellence.”All three shows start at 8pm.Tickets $35 for general admission or $65 for patrons are available online, www.premiertick ets.bm.
