Dancers from the US, Canada and Europe are set to tear up the stage this weekend as part of SalsaMania Productions’ latest offering.‘Mambo Nights: City Lights A Latin Dance Showcase’ will feature dance styles such as salsa, Argentine tango, hustle and Latin ballroom.International dance companies such as Latin Energy, Comomango, Cadence and M and A Dance Company, will perform. Bermuda will be represented by the professional, semi-professional and student companies of the Sabor Dance School.Maurizio Viscovo of Italy and Andra Vaidilaite of Lithuania are dancing with Canada-based M and A Dance Company. “[They] represented Canada in the professional showcase and floored audiences with their remarkably energetic Latin Ballroom style,” said Sabor Dance School director Travis Gilbert.“These champions began dancing at the tender ages of nine and four respectively. While Maurizio was being taken to dance classes by two dancer parents in Italy, Andra’s family packed up and moved from Lithuania to Canada so that she could pursue her dreams of performing and competing.“Maurizo has represented three different countries: Italy, Hungary and Canada, and since partnering with Andra, has been named the professional national champion of all three countries.“In her amateur career, Andra has achieved many great successes including becoming the World Junior Latin Champion, World Junior Salsa Champion and Canadian Youth Latin Champion.”The couple paired up about four years ago.“We started training in Maurizio’s hometown and decided to represent Italy, but as our career grew, we realised that we spent most of our time in Toronto,” Ms Vaidilaite said.“Our next step was switching to dancing for Canada, that is now what we consider our home.”The event takes place in the Harbourview Ballroom at Fairmont Hamilton Princess on Saturday.
