Film Series to continue at BUEI

A documentary that chronicles one day in the life of planet Earth, and a road movie starring two of Britain’s top comedians, are the featured films this Sunday during the ‘Weekend Film Series’.The ‘Weekend Film Series’, sponsored by Gosling’s, is a joint production of Bermuda Documentary Film Festival director Duncan Hall and the Bermuda Underwater Exploration (BUEI).The film to be shown, ‘Life in a Day’ was created entirely from footage uploaded by YouTube users. From 80,000 submissions totaling 4,500 hours of footage, editor Joe Walker has produced an incredible documentary feature out of a startling cinematic experiment.“Life in a Day is a first exhilarating, moving and very, very funny it is the story of our world, told by us,” said Weekend Film Series director Duncan Hall. “This is a feel good film about the global village, produced by Ridley Scott (‘Black Hawk Down’, ‘The Gladiator’, ‘Thelma and Louise’) and directed by Kevin MacDonald (‘One Day in September’, and ‘Touching the Void’).”The second film to be shown, The Trip, brings director Michael Winterbottom and the hilarious Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon (‘24 Hour Party People’, ‘A Cock and Bull Story’) back together in a side-splitting road comedy. When Steve Coogan is asked by a newspaper to tour the country’s finest restaurants, he envisions it as the perfect getaway with his beautiful girlfriend. But, when she backs out on him, he has no one to accompany him but his best friend and source of eternal aggravation, Rob Brydon. The brilliant comic duo drive each other mad with constant competition and showdowns of competing impressions (including duelling Michael Caines, Sean Connerys and Al Pacinos), and realise in the end a rich amount about not only good food, but the nature of fame, relationships and their own lives.‘Life in a Day’ will screen at 3pm, and ‘The Trip’ will screen at 5.15pm on August 21 (Sunday). Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in the Oceans Gift Shop at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI), or by calling 297-7314.
