BSX slips 1.24%

Four local companies saw their share prices rise on the Bermuda Stock Exchange last week, while one fell.But Butterfield Bank’s heavy weighting meant its four percent fall was sufficient to drag down The Royal Gazette / BSX Index 13.98 points, or 1.24 percent, to 1,123.9.Butterfield slipped five cents to $1.20, as 134,267 shares changed hands. The bank’s preference shares also saw trading activity, with 47 shares exchanged, as the price remained on $1,275.The biggest climber for the week was Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd, the owner of this newspaper and other media, printing, real estate and retail businesses, which rose 12.5 percent. BPH’s share price closed the week on $13.50, having risen $1.50 on the trading of 700 shares.Ascendant Group Ltd, owner of electricity company Belco, also had a positive week, as its share price climbed 56 cents, or 3.9 percent, to $14.95, as 2,200 shares changed hands.Broker-dealer LOM (Holdings) Ltd gained 10 cents, or 3.2 percent, during the week to close on $3.20, as 14,000 shares traded.The other stock to advance was Argus Group Holdings Ltd, which gained 14 cents, or 2.7 percent, to $5.30, as 3,800 shares were traded.Volume for the week topped 162,500 shares, while turnover was a little over $430,500.
