Index ekes out gain

Flat week: Butterfield was the most heavily traded stock on the BSX last week

Shares of telecommunications firm KeyTech Ltd fell 15 per cent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading last week.

However, The Royal Gazette/BSX Index still managed to eke out a gain, thanks to a 1.2 per cent gain for Butterfield Bank stock.

US firm Atlantic Tele-Network last month completed the deal which gave it a controlling interest in KeyTech and trading of the company’s have been very volatile since.

KeyTech fell 45 cents to close the week on $2.55 as 1,922 of its shares traded.

Butterfield climbed two cents, or 1.2 per cent, to close on $1.64 as 41,757 of its shares changed hands.

Insurer BF&M Ltd was the only other stock to trade, falling ten cents, or 0.6 per cent, to close the week on $17 on the trading of 9,900 shares.

The index added 2.05 points, or 0.17 per cent, to close on 1,178.65. Trading volume totalled 53,579 shares for the week, while turnover was $241,261.44.
