Butterfield drives BSX higher

Butterfield's 1.1 per cent rise pushed The Royal Gazette/BSX Index close to the 2,000 mark
The Bank of Butterfield today rose 35 cents to $32.20 on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index.
The move of 1.1 per cent came as 9,344 shares traded the day after the bank reported first-quarter profit of $35.9 million.
On the New York Stock Exchange, the bank was also up — 61 cents, or 1.9 per cent, to $32.80.
Utilities firm Ascendant was unchanged at $8.50 after 14,000 shares changed hands.
Insurer BF&M was also unchanged at $20.50 after 5,315 shares sold.
The Royal Gazette/BSX Index closed up 15.74 points, or 0.8 per cent, at 1,988.91.
The BSX Insurance Index ended the day up 15.54 points, or 0.83 per cent, at 1,888.90.
