BSX to ring in World Investor Week

Greg Wojciechowski, CEO of the BSX

The Bermuda Stock Exchange is to herald the start of trading on Monday with a ceremonial bell-ringing by City of Hamilton Town Crier, Ed Christopher, outside the organisation’s Victoria Street headquarters.

Monday marks the beginning of World Investor Week organised by the International Organisation of Securities Commissions. The BSX has announced its participation in support of the World Federation of Exchanges, of which it is a board member.

Greg Wojciechowski, president and chief executive officer of the BSX, said: “The overriding purpose of World Investor Week is to encourage and support the importance of investor education.

“This year’s theme, ‘Ringing the Bell for Financial Literacy’, takes the global initiative one step further by challenging investors to not only educate themselves on the risks and rewards of investing, but to actually apply that acquired knowledge to better understand investment terms and public company data, with a view to ultimately making more informed investment decisions.”

Mr Wojciechowski added: “World Investor Week dovetails perfectly with the exchange’s ongoing ‘Own Your Share of Bermuda’ campaign and provides us with yet another opportunity to promote our investor education guide, which is available as a free download from our website, www.bsx.com.

“The guide is designed to serve as an introduction for first-time investors and is must-read for anyone considering opening an investment account online or through one of our trading member firms.”

Mr Wojciechowski said that more than 50 exchanges worldwide will mark World Investor Week with either an opening or closing bell ceremony.

Representatives of the BSX will be joined at the ceremony by local dignitaries, including representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Bermuda Monetary Authority and CFA Society of Bermuda.
