St George’s Club renovations planned for new year

Renovations to a closed East End tourist property are expected to begin in the New Year, the developer has revealed.

Laura Purroy represents Hotelco Bermuda SGC Ltd, which is set to refurbish, operate and manage the hotel and timesharing scheme at the former St George’s Club, which closed in March.

The House of Assembly and the Senate have passed the St George’s Club Act 2020, which grants the developers a 262-year lease for the property, which sits on Government land.

Ms Purroy said: “We anticipate starting the renovations in the New Year, it’s been a long road to achieving the purchase of the St George’s Club.”

The property on Rose Hill in the Olde Towne has 71 one- and two-bedroom self-catering cottages, three pools, two tennis courts, a gym, and views to the golf course.

Ms Purroy said: “The entire property will be renovated, some areas in more depth. Hotelco Bermuda SGC is adapting the strategy and plans given the current Covid situation.”

She said the property will re-open approximately a year after renovations begin.

Ms Purroy added that the work will be “done in phases and honouring the relationship with the timeshare owners”.

She said there are 163 active timeshare members, adding that they already have reservations for 2021.
