Driver crashes into utility pole

A car driver cut his ear after crashing into a utility pole in Warwick yesterday.

The victim, a 30-year-old Pembroke man, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment after the incident on South Road, near the Southlands property, at about 3.30am.

A police spokesman said: “Apparently the car involved was being driven in the eastbound lane of South Road when it struck the utility pole, near the junction with Dunscombe Road.” The driver, said to be a 30-year-old Pembroke man, sustained lacerations to his ear.

“He was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via private vehicle, treated and later discharged.”

Traffic was diverted while Belco workers repaired the downed pole.

At 9am, Belco’s website reported 275 homes were without power, although they were restored later in the day.

Witnesses should call police on 295-0011.
