Drink-driver banned after crash
A drink-driver involved in a crash was banned from the roads for 18 months and fined $1,000 yesterday.
Dion Smith, 35, from Southampton, pleaded guilty to impaired driving in Magistrates’ Court.
Police were called last May to a two-car crash on South Road at the junction with Southcote Road, in Paget, the court heard. Police found Smith sitting on a wall holding a cut on his head.
He was taken to hospital for treatment, where he told police he was the driver of one of the cars involved in the crash.
The court heard that police smelled alcohol on Smith’s breath and asked for a blood sample.
A test showed 85 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80/100.
