A 28-year-old Latvian national appeared in court yesterday on firearms charges.Janis Zegelis was charged with importing a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and 192 rounds of 9mm ammunition into the Island on July 21 of this year. He faces two separate charges for possession of the same.Zegelis was arrested on Monday during a raid conducted by police and HM Customs on his yacht the Artur, which had been temporarily moored in St George’s for repairs.The Latvian did not speak during his brief court appearance yesterday, and was not required to enter a plea as the matter must be heard in Supreme Court.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded Zegelis in custody until August 19, when he will appear again for mention.
