Charges dropped in fraud case

Charges have been dropped against two former Works and Engineering workers in an alleged fraud case.Greatfield Carmichael, 61, and Calvin Waldron, 43, were released from Supreme Court yesterday after prosecutor Kirsty-Ann Kiellor told Supreme Court the Crown will not proceed against them. They had been charged with three counts of obtaining money by deception, which they had pleaded not guilty to.Speaking after the hearing, Mr Carmichael’s lawyer, Larry Mussenden, explained that his client worked as a building superintendent.“My client is grateful that the matter has come to the stage where the charges have been withdrawn against him. He had maintained his innocence from the very beginning,” he said.Fellow former Works and Engineering workers, Kyril Burrows, 48, and Delcina Bean-Burrows, 49, continue to face multiple counts of defrauding the Bermuda Government, in offences alleged to have taken place between 2005 and 2008. They deny the charges.
