Impaired rider told Police: ‘This is the end of my life’

A man found bleeding next to a crashed auxiliary cycle was banned from the roads after he admitted riding the vehicle while impaired.

Officers found Sri Wilson sitting on Friswells Road bleeding from his mouth around 10.05pm on April 3.

Crown counsel Garrett Byrne told Magistrates’ Court the officers stopped to investigate however the 32-year-old walked away.

He was found a short time later, sitting on a set of stairs.

He handed the officers his keys when asked, saying: “Give me a break. I’m nearly home. This is the end of my life.”

The officers asked the Pembroke man if he would submit to a breath test.

Wilson responded: “Why? I will fail it. Now I’m f***ed.”

In court he pleaded guilty to having control of a vehicle while impaired, adding he realised he had to make changes in his life.

“I’m very sorry,” he said. “I’m going to seek any necessary help. Obviously there is a problem I have got to address with alcohol.”

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner responded: “You seem to know what you have got to do. That is a good thing.”

Mr Warner fined Wilson $1,000 and banned him from driving all vehicles for one year.
