Alleged stabbing case is dropped

Charges have been dropped against a woman accused of stabbing her goddaughter after the alleged victim indicated that she did not want the case to proceed.Valita Harford, 52, was charged last year with unlawfully wounding Shaynell Harvey, 29, at the family home on September 28, 2011.No details of the crime were outlined by prosecutors.Yesterday, Ms Harford, of Mission Lane, Pembroke, was due to go on trial at Magistrates’ Court. However, prosecutor Nicole Smith told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that the Crown wished to offer no evidence against the defendant.Mr Tokunbo told Ms Harford, who had been on bail since she was charged last September, that she was free to go.Ms Harford’s name has previously been in the news as one of her sons, Kumi Harford, was shot dead in December 2009. Her other son, Jakai Harford, has been shot and injured twice and was imprisoned last year for dealing drugs at the family home.
