Three-year road ban for drink-drive man

A Paget man was disqualified from driving for three years after pleading guilty to driving with excess alcohol.Darren Edwards, 46, was charged in Magistrates’ Court yesterday with driving with excess alcohol in his blood. Because this was Edwards’ second such conviction, he received the obligatory penalty of three years without a licence. He was also fined $1,500.Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told the court that on August 4 police saw Edwards swerving across the road on his auxiliary cycle while driving on South Road in Paget. The officers stopped him and asked if he had been drinking. Edwards denied that he had had anything to drink, but the police noticed his slurred speech and the smell of alcohol on his breath.A breath test showed that Edwards had 245mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, approximately three times the legal limit of 80mg.
